In the 1980s, thousands of teenagers were sent to private psychiatric hospitals, often against their will and many for reasons that had little to do with mental illness. I was one of them. My memoir tells the story of what happened when my parents had me forcibly committed at sixteen while exploring a largely forgotten chapter of Gen X history.
